In this letter, which was sent to the Headquarters of the French Air Forces in Britain, Colonel Bailly:
- reports that Lieutenant Lemarchand had suggested a competition opened to the whole French engineering staff in Elvington: its purpose was to manufacture toys for British deprived children.
- indicates that the staff were informed of the rules of this competition on December 21 st and that, at 12 a.m., on December 24th, 204 toys had actually been submitted to the Jury presided over by Ct Churet. The winning individuals and the winning teams were rewarded.
- explains that these toys were delivred to the Lord Mayor of York who had them exhibited during 48 hours in the Townhall, then in the windows of a Department store in York. This was reported in the local press.
- says that three hospitals for children will receive those toys.
- joins a few photographs of some items which had been manufactured.
- adds that this initiative demonstrates the generosity and the resource fulness of the French engineers.
